Ganga Sagar Mela is one of the largest religious congregations in India, attracting millions of pilgrims every year to the sacred confluence of the Ganges and the Bay of Bengal at Sagar Island. As pilgrims embark on this spiritual journey, they face challenging environmental and physical conditions. Bahumukhi Gramunnayan Samity (BGS India) is actively committed to ensuring their safety, health, and dignity through a series of dedicated humanitarian services.
Our child protection and anti-human trafficking campaigns remain our highest priority at the Mela. With massive crowds making separation a high risk, BGS sets up emergency assistance booths, child help desks, and temporary shelters. We distribute security wristbands to children, enabling immediate rescue and family reunification for lost pilgrims.
In addition to safety efforts, BGS operates volunteer desks, free medicine distribution clinics, and water points across the transit stations and the main Mela ground. Our round-the-clock teams work in close coordination with local authorities to manage emergency situations and ensure a peaceful, safe pilgrimage for everyone.
